Liberty Locksmiths Grand Opening was a great success!

Rob, Greg, Barbara and the Liberty staff want to thank everyone who joined us in celebrating our first ribbon cutting. Without the support of company staff, family, friends and community we would not have had such a momentous celebration. There are some very well deserving people we want to personally thank. Barry Rieter, Bruce Lybrand, Chris Cochran and Rai Donaldson, without their support and guidance we would not be in our new location here in Apopka. Mayor John H. Land and the Apopka Chamber of Commerce for officially welcoming Liberty Locksmiths to Apopka community. Pastor Peter C. Whittier for his prayers and blessings for our staff, company and the Apopka community that we treasure. Lastly, we want to thank Advid Online, Business Networking International and The Global Exchange companies for their support and encouragement.

Unscrupulous Locksmiths a Triple Threat in Many States

Consumer safety advocate, www.AsktheSeal.com warns consumers to beware of unscrupulous and unsafe locksmiths.

In Florida the person who cuts your hair is required to have a state license. Given that, most people understandably assume that one would also need a license to change locks, make keys to your house or come to your aid in a dark parking lot when you are locked out of your car. The dangerous truth is that in Florida and many other states, Locksmiths are not regulated at all.

This situation is a “triple threat” according to Edward Marchiselli, President of consumer safety advocate, AsktheSeal.com. “Firstly, most people are not aware that locksmiths are not regulated or background checked in their state. Secondly, there is an inherent trust given to locksmiths due to the nature of the trade and the assumption of regulation. Unscrupulous locksmiths have taken over the industry nationwide and are taking advantage of consumers in increasing numbers. The scammers have taken over the print directories, review sites and internet search engine results. As much as 80% of the first page results for a typical internet search for a local locksmith are for rip off artists. Some of these companies are simply advertising and quoting low prices over the phone, then overcharging their clients hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Others could be knowingly and unknowingly employing dangerous felons with recent convictions for burglary, rape and murder.

“These scammers are driving legitimate locksmiths out of business. AsktheSeal.com has been operating in Orlando and Tampa Bay for nearly 4 years and we have only found a handful of reputable locksmiths who would submit or could also pass our criminal background checks”, said Marchiselli. Find a good locksmith before you need them and keep their number in your cell phone, car, wallet or purse.
It helps if they have a storefront. Walk inside and talk to the owner.
Verify how long they have been in business.
Check the American Locksmith of America website www.aloa.org but keep in mind that companies you find there may or may not perform employee background checks or issue photo IDs.
Google the company name along with the word “complaints”. Look beyond the first page of results.
If a locksmith is charging you significantly more than you were quoted over the phone or you feel you are in a dangerous situation, call the police.
